M17
M17 is a region of star formation and shines due to excited emission, caused by high energy radiation from young stars. Unlike many other emission nebulae, these stars are not obvious in optical wavelengths as they are hidden by the gas and dust of the nebula.
This image was made up of entirely narrowband images from Faulkes Telescope North. The filters used were Hydrogen-Alpha (assigned to the Luminance and Red channels), Hydrogen-Beta (assigned to the Green channel) and Oxygen-III (assigned to the Blue channel).
Although the wavelengths of H-Beta & O-III falls into the Blue and Green areas of the EM Spectrum respectively, they were reversed to form an image which was more based on the Hubble Palette.
