M95 is a barred-spiral galaxy about 35 million light years away in the constellation of Leo. The bright blue ring surrounding the core of the galaxy traces a region of ongoing star formation. On March 16th, 2012 the death of a massive star in M95 erupted into a type IIP supernova (SN2012aw).
