NGC 7331 et al. (Deer Lick Group) Telescope class: Partner TelescopesSite: SedgwickTelescope: Sedgwick Reserve ObservatoryInstruments: SBIG STL-6303This is NGC 7331 (and company), also called the Deer Lick Group. The large spiral galaxy that dominates the image is about 49 million light years distant, and about 10 times closer than the galaxies in the background. It is only by chance that these galaxies line up on the sky for such a picturesque scene.Tags: sedgwickspiralBOSAstrophotographygalaxyngc 7331
A Quick Shot of M11 Telescope class: Partner TelescopesSite: SedgwickTelescope: Sedgwick Reserve ObservatoryInstruments: SBIG STL-6303This is a quick snapshot of M11 (aka The Wild Duck Cluster). Some of you may have seen this with your own eyes at Sedgwick last friday. M11 is an open cluster within our galaxy. It lies about 6200 light years away in the constellation Scutum, and contains about 2900 stars. Most of my images consist of 3-5 hours of exposure time, but this one took less than 4 minutes.Tags: sedgwickclusterBOSAstrophotographyM11wild duck
