The Veil Unveiled Last week I was hunting through our archive of public observations. I wanted to find observations that, together, would form a larger image. My plan was to test out some command-line software - Montage - that can automatically combine FITS files into mosaics.
Veil Nebula Mosaic Telescope: Faulkes Telescope NorthInstruments: H alphaOIII This representative color mosaic of the Veil Nebula was created from a set of images taken by Brockenhurst College using Faulkes Telescope North in July 2010. The red channel shows a mosaic of Hydrogen alpha filter images and the blue shows images taken with an OIII filter (which is green).Tags: Veilnebulamosaic
Orion Nebula Mosaic Telescope: Faulkes Telescope NorthInstruments: H alphaOIII This is a representative color mosaic of images taken by Shoeburyness High School using Faulkes Telescope North in October 2011. I compiled the mosaic using Montage (NASA/IPAC Infrared Science Archive) with final compositing in The GIMP. There is a bit of mis-alignment.Tags: M42Orion Nebulamosaic
