Outreach One of LCOGT’s aims is to make astronomy accessible and exciting to the public. We have several ways of approaching this goal. One is by creating citizen science programs such as Agent Exoplanet, that can be accessed from anyone anywhere with an internet connection. As our network comes online, we will also have telescope observing time available to members of the public through our citizen science programs and through our partners.
First Sedgwick Star Party of 2012 March 21 marked the first star party at Sedgwick for the 2012 season. Not only did we have quite an enthusiastic group, the astronomy club from Santa Barbara City College, but we had perfect (but cold) weather with great seeing.
Show Me Stars! Back in January, comedian Dara Ó Briain co-presented a UK TV show named Stargazing Live that was shown at prime time on the main BBC TV channel. Several million people tuned in for three nights to watch live updates from telescopes around the world.
Amateur Outreach Award 2009 Every year the Las Cumbres Amateur Outreach Award is presented to an individual displaying outstanding outreach by an amateur astronomer to children and the public. This award is presented at the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) annual meeting, after the ASP board of directors have reviewed all the candidates.
